Scholarships for Wildlife Refuge Volunteers
The Friends of the National Conservation Training Center provides financial support to help Friends and Volunteers of the National Wildlife Refuge and Fisheries to attend the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) training courses that will enhance knowledge and skills to benefit their volunteer work. Please visit the NCTC site for course descriptions and schedules.
The Program was established in 2005 when the Friends of NCTC received a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). Today, the program continues by means of Friends of NCTC fund raising activities.

Scholarships for 2017
Our scholarship application will be available beginning October 1, 2016 for qualified applicants on a first come first served basis up to $1,000, providing the applicant is approved by the Friends of NCTC. A representative of NCTC must agree the course is appropriate for the applicant and “volunteer” activities must be unpaid except for reimbursable expenses incurred on behalf of the refuge, fishery, or Friends group.
We ask in return that successful applicants keep in touch with us to help with fund raising activities for future scholarships by providing written information, including digital photos, which describe the benefits of the course work personally as well as on behalf of the volunteer work they do.
For best consideration, applicants should request support at least 12 weeks in advance of the course start date through submission of the application form and a “Sponsor’s” letter from the refuge/fishery manager/project leader or the Friends organization Chair/President/project leader.
