Scholarships for 2017

Our scholarship application will be available beginning October 1, 2016 for qualified applicants on a first come first served basis up to $1,000, providing the applicant is approved by the Friends of NCTC. A representative of NCTC must agree the course is appropriate for the applicant and “volunteer” activities must be unpaid except for reimbursable expenses incurred on behalf of the refuge, fishery, or Friends group.

We ask in return that successful applicants keep in touch with us to help with fund raising activities for future scholarships by providing written information, including digital photos, which describe the benefits of the course work personally as well as on behalf of the volunteer work they do.

For best consideration, applicants should request support at least 12 weeks in advance of the course start date through submission of the application form and a “Sponsor’s” letter from the refuge/fishery manager/project leader or the Friends organization Chair/President/project leader.

Currently, the Friends of NCTC scholarship is not designed to cover transportation costs.
We have had scholarship recipients utilize several/combination of these options: -Have your Friends Group pay all transportation cost, -Have your Friends Group in collaboration with your FWS Partner pay transportation cost, or -Pay for the transportation cost privately yourself. Please review the U.S. Fish and Wildlife (FWS) Service Volunteer Program Operations Policy https://www.fws.gov/policy/150fw3.html and have a discussion with you FWS Project Manager and the Chair of your Friends group.
