On Thursday September 24, 2026, at 7:00 pm the Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health will present “Evening Grand Rounds: The Health of A Person, A Place, & A Planet” at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV.
What if your health, your neighbors' health, and the health of the land around you were all the same story told at different scales? Join emergency physician Chris Lemon for an evening in the tradition of medical "grand rounds" — a public examination of a case, except tonight everyone in the room has a stake in the diagnosis, the treatment, and where we go from here.
Chris Lemon’s journey into Planetary Health was catalyzed by his frontline experiences in emergency medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Medical professionals globally observed the pandemic’s profound societal impacts, and also recognized it as a catalyst for reimagining health, well-being, and interconnectedness across the planet.
At Johns Hopkins, Chris is innovating efforts to integrate clinical care providers into the planetary health dialogue. He wants to support the Institute’s work by finding ways to utilize and integrate the trusted healthcare voice and clinical expertise of care providers. Likewise, he seeks to weave this critical interconnectedness into healthcare education, both in current and future curricula. For Chris and clinical colleagues, engaging in these initiatives offers a path to recovery from pandemic-induced burnout, discovering new avenues for adaptation, resilience, and wellness in healthcare—and for those who work in it.
Chris is double-boarded in Emergency Medicine & Pediatrics by way of the dual-program at the University of Maryland. His experiences across different community and academic clinical settings, provides him with unique insights into contemporary practice patterns and their role in planetary health initiatives.
Chris Marshall is the Senior Administrative Manager of The Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health which involves oversight of finance and human resource functions. He joined JHIPH from his prior role as CFO of the State Theater of Maryland. In that role, Chris learned how story-telling is the most effective tool to affect cultural evolution. Prior to this role Chris was the acting Chief Investment Officer for the State of Maryland, located in the Maryland State Treasurer’s Office. While there, he was responsible for managing the $15 billion general fund, among other duties.
Prior to joining the State, Chris spent over 26 years filling multiple roles at the Baltimore-based investment management firm, T. Rowe Price. He began his career at TRP as a temp. and grew in his role to eventually manage five teams of FINRA Series 7 licensed investment representatives as an Assistant Vice President, before transitioning from client service to investment operations. As Senior Manager and Vice President in Investment Operations, he was responsible for global cash management functions, record-keeping, custodial relations, systems development, multi-national reconciliation, vendor management, leadership development, and many other functions.
